SYLLABUS OBJECTIVES (GENERAL OVERVIEW)
The syllabus is designed to provide an understanding of the methods of book-keeping and accounting principles that lie behind the computerised accounting systems that are widely used, especially in Singapore context. Pupils will be equipped with the mechanics of preparing accounts, and the ability to apply accounting concepts and information and interpret them. Pupils will have an understanding of the theoretical foundation of accounting principles & practices. The syllabus also infuses higher order thinking skills that are pertinent to meet the challenges in this knowledge-based society.
The syllabus enables pupils to:
acquire knowledge & understanding of fundamental accounting concepts, conventions, principles, procedures and techniques in the context of business aims and activities
develop an understanding of the role of accounting in providing an information system for monitoring & decision-making appropriate to the needs of users
develop skills in analysing & preparing accounting information
develop skills of numeracy, information technology literacy, communication, inquiry, presentation & interpretation
develop skills in interpretation of accounting information & understanding their implication for GCE 'O' Level
develop attitudes of accuracy, orderliness & logical thought
